“Veterans Memorial Grounds”

Codorus State Park is one of 3 parks in Pennsylvania that have a memorial honoring those men and women of the armed forces, that through their efforts we live in a free country and have a park to enjoy.   In the past 5 years 49 service personnel have been honored by their name plate being added to the plaque representing the branch of the military in which they served and/or a tree was planted in their honor.  A tree native to the park, such as, Maple, White Ash, Oak, White Pine, etc., can also be planted as a dedication as well.  The week before Veterans Day, the park has a Dedication Ceremony when the trees are planted.  Also  during the Veterans celebration there will be a "Flag Retirement" ceremony where flags that are worn, faded or tattered will be retired while a Color Guard is present. This is the only method approved by Congress for the disposal of old flags.  During your next visit the park, take a few minutes to stop at the Veterans Memorial as a "thank you" to all those who served for our country.  For more information about honoring a Veteran, call the park office at 717/637-2816.
