The
Mary Ann Furnace
As you browse
through the gift shop you can't help but notice the museum in back. Codorus
State Park visitors, community locals and members of the Friends Group were lucky enough to
discover the history of the Mary Ann Furnace. The Historical Committee,
which is made up of members of FOCSP, have uncovered a proud connection
between the Mary Ann Furnace and Pennsylvania's history that dates back to the
1700's. History including names like George Washington, Elizabeth (Betsy)
Ross, and her uncle, George Ross ( a signer of the Declaration of
Independence); places & events including York, and the battle of Trenton. A
descendant of William Thompson is in the process on writing a book about the furnace
and the remarkable connection the furnace, Codorus State Park, and Hanover have with
American history.
